I recently got around to publishing my first batch of Android apps, one of which is the Darkstep Charts. Here's the Google Play page for the free version of the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hybridsystem.darkstepchartsfree
Basically what it does is track the number of Last.fm users who have listened to a bunch of darkstep artists (about 300 in total - including a few forum users like Fexomat and Edgey) and calculates which artists have the highest increase in listeners every month. If you click on an artist in the charts then you're shown a list of links to various social media pages for them where you can listen to their stuff (SoundCloud, YouTube, Twitter, etc).
The free version of the app shows the top 10 artists for the current month - the "pro" version costs $0.99/0.50 EUR (the minimum price allowed for Android apps) and shows the top 20 artists and also lets you view the charts from previous months (back to March, 2012 - when I started collecting data). The "pro" version also lets you submit new artists to be considered for upcoming months.

So, since February I have been slowly working on an AR 15 build, it first started with my dad purchasing a Rock River Arms complete rifle and my interest took off from there. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted a standard 5.56 NATO AR or a 300 Blackout AR. However upon further research, I found the 5.56 or .223 to be a much more standard approach and I work for fucking minimum wage, so, I don't have the funds to just blow away .308 ammo by the crate. So, with this build in progress I settled on a few factors. I wanted this build to last, I didn't want it to look like every other AR or S&W MP, Bushmaster, Stag, or Colt. I like custom shit with high quality parts. I wanted it to be strong, take a few bitch slaps, hold out when China invades the USA, a zombie breakout, y'know, the USUAL. At first I wanted to build the lower by hand, but upon further research, found a great manufacturer who would build my lower receiver with mil spec parts and enhanced LPKs. Therefore the logical solution for me was using Spikes Tactical to build my lower, which was cheaper than me building it by hand. With this in mind, I purchased a Calico Jack lower receiver with nickel boron trigger group and hammer and anti-rotation pins for longer longevity of the trigger group, along with the kick ass Calico Jack logo (I see myself as a stealer of shit). So here's my lower (still in production mode, I haven't received it as of yet).

After that purchase I moved onto studying everything about the upper receiver and barrel. Awhile before my lower purchase, I remember reading about Spikes Tactical's NiB (Nickel Boron/Borate) BCG (Bolt Carrier Group) from FailZero and have heard nothing but great things about this BCG. I wanted to stray from the standard phosphate coated BCG mainly because I really really really hate cleaning carbon fouling out of my other weapons with phosphate coated bolts. The worst is my Springfield XD40 SC pistol, what a bitch to clean carbon fouling! So, I wanted a rifle that would again, last for-fucking-ever, and with stand a good beating. The NiB BCG was a no brain(er). Not only will it clean like a charm or collect carbon at ridiculous rates, but it is guaranteed for life and the fit and finish of the BCG is said to never flake, mar, or peel away. The ST NiB BCG also requires less lubrication and maintenance than standard phosphate BCG's because of the NiB state. Highly magnified, the surface looks like the grand canyon with rounded edges, it holds lubricant better and wears less. It’s High Pressure Tested and Magnetic Particle Inspected (HPT/MPI).

Moving on, after the BCG and lower purchase, I began having issues finding good quality parts that I wanted in stock, anywhere. If you are familiar with AR 15 builds or high demand weapons in general, you know they will sell out at an insane rate (sometimes even 10 minutes after a vendor has listed the item "In Stock"). If you are new to AR 15 builds, make sure you DO YOUR RESEARCH, find a hand full of reputable vendors and stick to them!
After a shit ton of web browsing and the like, I stumbled into a couple good vendors with the parts I was looking for. The next purchase was a stripped Spikes Tactical FN (Herstel) 5.56 CHF (Cold Hammer Forged) chrome lined 1/7 twist 16" barrel with M4 style barrel extension and mid length gas system. Got it for a good price. I love this barrel simply because it is completely mil spec and heavy. When I set out to start this project, I did so with close quarters in mind along with the ability to fire at long range (250yds - 500yds) and with this heavy barrel, it will help my accuracy even though it is only a 16" (which is a standard barrel length, enough for it not to be considered a Short Barrel Rifle or SBR). The CHFing and chrome lining by FN will make this barrel something that will withstand a hopeful 30K round life. Along with this barrel will also be included a nice mid length melonited gas tube for less corrosion.
About the same time I purchased my barrel I was trying to decide on a quality upper receiver. I didn't want to have some USGI upper, because I'm not a marine who was issued a rifle at no cost to me. I didn't want the receiver to be drop forged by a USGI contractor with any QA. I knew I would need an M4 upper for my M4 barrel extension (M4 feedramps are cut into the reciever and the barrel extensions M4 ramps lead into the upper's ramps). So I settled on a badass Daniel Defense A4 style upper receiver. DD has a reputation for great quality and customer service. I know DD makes some of their parts in house, so, I knew this wouldn't be some USGI contracted POS with a DD stamp on it, it has been machined to mil spec and is flawless in design.
Along with the DD upper purchase I also grabbed two other things. I wanted a good gas block, not some POS gas block again, by some USGI contractor. I really have liked VLTOR's high quality parts and settled on a stainless VLTOR low profile gas block with set screws to mount on the barrel. Plus it looks badass.
After the gas block purchase I also grabbed a BCM (VLTOR mfg) Gunfighter charging handle with a medium latch. These handles are very light and very strong. With the medium latch I knew if I really need to get the bolt into battery, I could count on the easy latch to be there when I went to grab it and not have it slip off my finger, it is completely mil spec and machined out of billet aluminum.
I have since purchased the rest of the rifle but will update when I receive those parts. Here are pics of what I have so far
